Let the Peace of God Reside in Your Heart and Mind
Paul tells us:
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God ; which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
Are you a child of God? Does the peace of God dwell in your heart and your mind? It should . . . His Word tells us so.
It is the Law which brings about wrath . If you have no peace and you are living in fear then either a tormenting spirit is lying to you or you are placing yourself under the teaching of someone who is preaching works for righteousness sake (Law). These type will not say they are preaching works, but obedience. Obedience to laws.
Abraham is the father of all who believe. However, it is clearly seen in Scripture Abraham was far from being perfect. Even so, in his imperfection, Abraham pleased God.
It was not what Abraham did in the flesh that pleased God. It was not his obedience as shown through his works. Abraham believed God and it was accounted to him for righteousness.
God’s Word tells us:
“ . . . to him who does not work but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly , his faith is accounted for righteousness.”
King David was far from being perfect however he was a man after God’s own heart. Why? Because he believed God. King David said:
“Blessed are those who lawless deeds are forgiven, and whose sins are covered; Blessed is the man to whom the Lord shall not impute sin.”
Abraham, because of his faith, received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith of all those who believe. This seal is a type of what we receive as New Covenant believers. As New Covenant believers we are circumcised of our heart. When, through faith, we receive Jesus as our Lord and Savior we are sealed with His Holy Spirit of promise until the Day of Redemption; which is the day of our resurrection.
The promise of our salvation does not come through obedience as displayed through our behavior or obedience to any law but through the righteousness of faith.
The law brings about wrath. Where there is no law, there is no transgression .
Child of God, Jesus placed us under two commandments and both of them are LOVE. When He sacrificed Himself on the Cross of Calvary He wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us , which was contrary to us. He has taken law out of the way , having nailed it to the cross. Jesus Himself fulfilled all the righteousness requirements of the Law for all who will believe.
Preachers will preach, Thou shalt not commit adultery (or what ever sin). Truth is, you shouldn’t. However if one could live his entire life and remain virtuous in every way (which is impossible) without faith he would not see the salvation of God. On the other hand the filthiest of us all through faith will receive the righteousness of God which is in Christ Jesus. It is not of works, it is by the Grace of God through faith.
Does this mean it is OK for us to live in sin? Heaven forbid. I’m a holiness preacher who believes we should constantly be striving to live a life of holiness. Once we believe we are called to good works. Through these good works we store up treasures in heaven. One day we will stand before God and these treasures will be distributed in accordance with our works. This will not be a time of judgment of worthiness for salvation. It will be a time of judgment of our works since the beginning of our salvation.
Hear what Paul said:
“What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not!” . . . “For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.”
Child of God, live in peace, believing. His word tells us:
“Whosoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.” . . . “ . . . God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.” . . . “Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; . . . “ . . . “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out all fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.
Those who preach law, fleshly obedience unto righteousness, condemnation, impending wrath, and anything else which brings fear into a believer’s heart will say they fear because they have not been perfected yet. Child of God , if you truly are His; if you truly believe Jesus is the Son of God come in the flesh and that God raised Him from the dead; if you have confessed you are a sinner and have invited Him into your heart; if you truly are walking by faith and not by works then you should be at peace . Fear, terror, dread of condemnation or coming wrath should not exist in you.
TRUST GOD and allow the peace of God which surpasses all understanding guard your heart and mind through Christ Jesus.
