SUNDAY SCHOOL TAKEN BY DCNS ASHAOLU 19TH APRIL 2020

LESSON THIRTY-FOUR

OPENING PRAYER
Father, save me and my family  from destiny destroyers in Jesus’ name.

MEMORY VERSE:
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thought of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”
— Jeremiah 29:11

BIBLE PASSAGE:  1KINGS 11:1-11
11.1. But King Solomon loved many foreign women, as well as the daughter of Pharaoh: women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Sidonians, [and] Hittites —

11.2. from the nations of whom the LORD had said to the children of Israel, “You shall not intermarry with them, nor they with you. Surely they will turn away your hearts after their gods.” Solomon clung to these in love.

11.3. And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines; and his wives turned away his heart.

11.4. For it was so, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned his heart after other gods; and his heart was not loyal to the LORD his God, as [was] the heart of his father David.

11.5. For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites.

11.6. Solomon did evil in the sight of the LORD, and did not fully follow the LORD, as [did] his father David.

11.7. Then Solomon built a high place for Chemosh the abomination of Moab, on the hill that [is] east of Jerusalem, and for Molech the abomination of the people of Ammon.

11.8. And he did likewise for all his foreign wives, who burned incense and sacrificed to their gods.

11.9. So the LORD became angry with Solomon, because his heart had turned from the LORD God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice,

11.10. and had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods; but he did not keep what the LORD had commanded

11.11. Therefore the LORD said to Solomon, “Because you have done this, and have not kept My covenant and My statutes, which I have commanded you, I will surely tear the kingdom away from you and give it to your servant.

INTRODUCTION
Destiny is God’s purpose for a man’s life. It is a divinely pre-planned destination. It is the totality of God’s counsel for a person and what God has decided concerning a person even before conception (Jeremiah 1:5). As good as it is, at several points in life , it still depends on one’s attitude and agreement with God. God has a prepared destination for our live (Jer. 29:11)

TEXT REVIEW: 1KINGS 11:1-11
“Solomon clave unto these in love. And he had seven hundred wives, princess, and three hundred concubines: and his wives turned away his heart”. 1Kings 11:2-3.

ACTIVITY:
Teacher should identify the acts and consequences of Solomon in the light of marriages to 700 wives and three hundred concubines from the Bible passages.

LESSON OUTLINE
1. SOME DESTINY DESTROYERS.
2.BIBLICAL INSTANCES.

OUTLINE -1
SOME DESTINY DESTROYERS

A. Teacher should state the seven (7) destiny destroyers as indicated below:

i. LACK OF KNOWLEDGE: Lack of knowledge is a destiny destroyer (Hosea 4:6; Proverbs 29:18). If we are aware of our Destiny, we shall be free, focused and fulfilled. Failure to do so may lead to destruction (John 8:32; Isaiah 6:1-9; Hebrews 11:13).

ii. PURSUIT OF VANITY: Solomon pursued so much of vanity until he became a complete backslider. The privileges of wealth and lack of self-control ruined his destiny (Ecclesiastes 2:10-11; 1Kings 11:1-10).

iii. LACK OF FAITH: Lack of faith is also a destiny destroyer (Hebrews 4:3; 1Timothy 1:19)

iv. PRIDE: Pride is excessive self-esteem. It is when you are filled with an exciting sense of credit due to yourself. Pride is a sin and it leads to loss and destruction (James 4:6; Daniel 4:28-33; Proverbs 29:23).

v. SINFUL LIFESTYLES: Sins not confess and forsaken are dangerous because they provoke God to anger. A man who is living in sin cannot fulfil his destiny or attain eternal destination which God has promised (1John 3:4).

vi. ANGER: Anger is another destiny destroyer. Uncontrolled emotional outburst has led many people out of God’s purpose for their lives (Ecclesiastes 7:9; Proverbs 29:22).

vii. PRAYERLESSNESS: Prayerlessness can cause the enemy to take advantage of a man’s destiny (Matthew 13:25; Matthew 26:41; Luke 18:21).

B. Teacher should ask students to explain how the following can assist to support or fulfil destiny.

i. Knowledge.
ii. Contentment.
iii. Faith.
iv. Humility.
v. Holiness.
vi. Meekness.
vii. Prayerfulness.

C. Teacher should note  that the above seven factor are opposite of earlier identified destiny destroyers. Teacher should therefore encourage students to migrate from destiny destroyers to destiny fulfilling factors.
